Bonsai Bakery | Brainstorm

Bonsai Bakery was very much a study in “test & tweak.” Initially, I built out paper structures to visualizes potential baking shapes and experiment with forms of modular origami, inspiring my modular backing containers. I then designed a preliminary plexiglas mold and cast a silicone baking mold from it. Yes, I made a plexiglas mold for my baking mold. After baking some pyramid shaped muffins from it, my first conclusion was clear: this would be a challenge. Batter would seep out of any crack it could find, and the expanding dough could burst many preliminary molds.
